Instrumental

Day 130
Challenge: Be inspired by music.

I recently purchased this clarinet
at a local vintage shop.

It is great fun rediscovering the instrument I played in high school over 40 years ago!

In the wide world could there be such a thing as clarinet music with a snail theme?

'Turns out there is! I discovered a story by Danish writer, Hans Christian Andersen, about a snail who criticizes a rosebush.

http://www.portitude.org/literature/andersen/ft-snail_and_the_rosebush.php

And searching further, music composed for that story by Elaine Fine . . .  a clarinet solo accompanied by piano.

http://thematiccatalog.blogspot.com/2007/06/snail-and-rosebush.html

The music seems difficult to access AND difficult for me to play . . . so perhaps another day . . . but I also came upon this delightful little snail composition in my searching:

Along with other items, both snail shells and clarinet (bass) are identified
as "instruments" for this original piece of music! I hope you enjoy it.

Sometimes I begin to think
I've come to the end of snail possibilities
and snail learning.

But not YET!

(This is SO MUCH fun.)

You Are What You Eat

Day 123
Challenge:  Be inspired by egg shells.

Egg Shell Snail
Going Out for Lunch

FYI:
Snails will eat egg shells to build the strength of their own shells.

Red?

Day 113
Challenge:
Only Red

   Red Cabbage Snail
 [Loon Organics]

Some might argue that the red cabbage snail
is really violet AND white.

I therefore offer:

Red Red Cabbage Snail
 [Loon Organics, ArtApp, iPhoto Edits]

@

FYI: This cabbage is destined
to become a major player
in the following nostalgic recipe:

CEDRIC ADAMS' CASSEROLE
1/2 med. head cabbage
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 can condensed tomato soup
Low salt seasoning, to taste
1 med. onion, chopped
1 c. celery, sliced
Garlic powder, to taste
Shred cabbage rather coarsely. Saute ground beef with onion and celery. Cook until done but don't brown. Season to taste. Don't use too much salt.
In casserole, place raw cabbage and beef mixture. Pour tomato soup on top. Bake covered at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Makes 4 servings. You get no back talk from the cabbage, the caloric content is low and the whole thing is licken good.

Vegie

Romanesco Snail

We discovered this amazing
vegetable in this week's
Loon Organic produce!

Romanesco is described as spiral florets that taste
nutty and delicious!

To be cooked like cauliflower: steamed, roasted or
sauted.

It is beautiful to behold.

The Sun Did It

Day 98
Challenge:
Incorporate time.

The Cover Up

October 1st
 The forecast: warm and sunny.
JoY!
I place my snail project on our back patio table
to catch the day's rays.

@

October 2nd
The forecast:  warm and sunny, with increased wind.
 Yes!
I weight the paper with a few more stones
and allow the sun to work its magic
on the paper once again.

In the late afternoon I peek beneath the mask.
I note some change.

October 3rd, today!
Indeed, it was another beautiful autumn day with
temperatures in the high 70's.

On the eve of a predicted weather change
[tomorrow's state forecast includes words like: highs in the low 50's, rain, and snow]
I ended the project.

 The Reveal:
Faded Snail

It's about time!

@

Just thinking . . .
because the snail project camped under the stars those two beautiful clear nights, maybe that full moon shine gets some of the credit!   :)
